What do they do?
Melanie Gilfillan is the star of Our Daily Bread, a young Irish artisan bakery in Co Down, hand making a brown wheaten bread recipe passed down through the family for over 30 years. Brown wheaten bread is a popular wholemeal, hearty form of soda bread served all over Ireland and dates back to approximately 1840 when bicarbonate of soda was first introduced to Ireland.
Why do we love them?
Our Daily Bread use as many locally sourced ingredients as possible. It is wholesome and virtually fat free as the buttermilk contains very little fat. Whilst experimenting with baking the wheaten, they discovered a soda bread variation that we are sure will become a firm favorite!
